Bioethanol Fire Pits & Tables

Our bioethanol fire pits and fire pit tables are all from EcoSmart Fire: a real flame from a 304-grade stainless steel burner, with no flue, no gas connection and no smoke or ash. They are built as furniture rather than as burners, in concrete composite and stainless steel, and they are the pieces to look at if you want a fire that sits in the middle of how you use the garden rather than at the edge of it.

Bioethanol fire pit tables

Most of the range is tables, and a fire pit table is what most customers are looking for: a flame in the middle with somewhere to put a drink or a plate around it. They run from the low, compact Base 30, Base 40 and Ark 40, through the longer coffee-table shapes of the Manhattan 50, Cosmo 50 and Martini 50 and the Wharf 65, to the Gin 90, which comes in four heights: Chat, Low, Dining and Bar. The Dining and Bar versions are full-height tables you eat at, with the fire running down the centre.

Each table comes in a choice of finishes, with a stainless steel or black burner, so it can be matched to the furniture around it.

Bioethanol fire pits and bowls

For the flame without the table, the Pod 30 and Pod 40 are low, round fire bowls; the Mix 600 and Mix 850 are the same idea in two sizes; and the Stix and Stix 8 are portable pieces, light enough to move around the garden and set down wherever you are sitting.

Choosing for your space

On a balcony or a small terrace, a Base 30, a Pod 30 or a Stix gives you the flame without taking the seating space. On a patio seating area, a Base 40, a Cosmo 50 or a Manhattan 50 works as the coffee table the seating gathers around. In a larger or more open garden, the Gin 90 in one of its heights, the Wharf 65 or the Pod 40 has the scale and the flame to hold the space. Bioethanol or gas?

Bioethanol needs nothing plumbed in and nothing bottled, so it goes where you want it. Gas gives more heat and a fire you turn on and off, at the cost of a bottle or a mains connection. How long does a bioethanol fire pit burn for?

Between about seven and thirteen hours on a full burner, depending on the model and how high you run the flame. The burn time for each burner is on its product page. EcoSmart recommend their own e-NRG bioethanol, which is formulated for these burners.

Do bioethanol fire pits give off much heat?

Yes, though they are designed for ambience first. The burners in this range run from around 1.7kW on the Stix to around 6kW on the larger tables and bowls, which takes the edge off a cool evening around the table rather than heating a whole patio. The output for each model is on its product page.

Are bioethanol fires bad for your health?

Bioethanol burns cleanly, and the by-products are heat, water vapour and a small amount of carbon dioxide, with no smoke, soot or ash. These are outdoor fire pits, so ventilation is not a concern in normal use. Follow the manual on lighting, refuelling and extinguishing, and only fill a burner that is off and cool.

What are the downsides of a bioethanol fire pit?

Three things to know before you buy. The fuel is bought separately and by the litre, so there is a running cost and something to keep in stock. The flame is open, so a strong wind will push it around, and a screen is worth having on an exposed site. And they are not for cooking.

Where can you safely put a bioethanol fire pit?

On a stable, level, heat-resistant surface, with clear space around it and away from anything that can catch, including overhanging plants, awnings and parasols. Patios and decking both work if the surface is level and the clearances in the manual are kept. Keep the burner lid closed when it is not in use so nothing gets into the burner.

What does a bioethanol fire pit cost to run?

It depends on the burner size and how high you run the flame. A full burner gives seven to thirteen hours depending on the model, and the burner capacity and burn time on each product page tell you how far a litre goes. We do not sell the fuel, but we can point you to a supplier of e-NRG.
